Locks of Love, Lives Remembered

What the Padlocks Represent

The padlocks in the Garden of Remembrance form a visible tapestry of love, loss, and connection. Each lock is a small, steady declaration: this life mattered, this love endures. Together, they create a gentle chorus of stories—different shapes, colors, and sizes—gathered in one place. The growing collection becomes a communal symbol of:

  • Belonging     — no one grieves alone.
  • Memory     — every life honored, every story held.
  • Hope     — love that continues, even in absence.
  • Courage     — the bravery of naming grief and choosing remembrance.

How to Personalize Your Padlock

There is no right or wrong way to make your padlock meaningful. Choose what feels true to your heart. Here are some ideas:

Names and Initials

  • Your baby’s name, initials, or a nickname
  • A meaningful date or short phrase

Symbols

  • Hearts, stars, butterflies, flowers
  • A small drawing that represents your child or your story

Colors

  • A color that reminds you of your baby
  • Paint pens or permanent markers for gentle touches of color

Words of Love

  • “Forever loved,” “Always ours,” “Held in heaven”
  • A single word that captures your heart — hope, joy, grace, light, beloved

Scripture or Faith Elements

  • A verse reference
  • A small cross or faith symbol

Personal Tokens

  • A ribbon, charm, or beads
  • A tiny tag with a message or prayer
  • a cross

Special padlocks of various shapes and colors, as well as padlocks that can be engraved, are available on Etsy.

Placing Your Padlock

When you place your padlock in the garden, you are adding your story to a shared space of remembrance. You are welcome to:

  • Take a quiet moment before you lock it
  • Say a prayer, speak a name, or simply breathe
  • Visit your padlock anytime

A Growing Symbol of Love

As more padlocks are added, the installation becomes a growing testament to the children we carry in our hearts. Each lock is a reminder that love leaves a mark, and that every story—every single one—is seen and honored here.
